Rate: £55 per hour (Umbrella - Inside IR35)
Location: London (with flexible and hybrid-working options)
Hours: Full Time (36 hours per week)
Contract: Temporary (2 months until further notice)

About the Role:

I'm looking for a Planning Policy Team Leader to join a high-profile London Local Authority’s Planning Policy team.
This is a key role with a significant opportunity to influence policy delivery, guide decision-making, and make a measurable, positive difference to the future of the borough.

In this role, you will:
  • Provide expert guidance and manage delivery of planning policy initiatives and related projects.
  • Support team members in delivering high-caliber policy documents and reports, ensuring they align with strategic priorities and legislation.
  • Develop strong relationships with stakeholders — internal colleagues, councillors, community groups, and external stakeholders — to enable collaborative policy making.
  • Contribute to a range of policy responses and consultation processes.
  • Support delivery of policy initiatives related to climate emergency, sustainable growth, and securing community benefits.
  • Provide clear, accurate, and insightful advice to aid decision makers, while navigating financial, legal, and political sensitivities.

About YouWe are looking for a candidate with:
  • A degree in Town Planning or related discipline, or a relevant professional qualification.
  • An in-depth understanding of the UK planning policy framework and its role in delivering sustainable community outcomes.
  • Experience delivering policy and related initiatives within a local government context — with a strong understanding of climate emergency and community engagement.
  • Ability to produce clear and well-evidenced reports, policy documents, and guidance.
  • Collaborative interpersonal skills, a keen political awareness, and the ability to advise stakeholders effectively.
  • Commitment to service delivery excellence, fairness, and ongoing improvement

Additional Information
  • Rate: £55 per hour (Inside IR35)
  • Hours: 37 hours per week (Monday–Friday) with occasional evening meetings
  • Location: London — Flexible and Hybrid-working available
  • Start Date: Immediate or as soon as possible
  • Contract: Temporary with ongoing opportunity for extension, subject to performance and funding
