Job Description

Vox consultants are looking for a Mechanical Maintenance Engineer/Maintenance Plumber for our client in Manchester.
This role is Monday to Friday, 37.5-40hour week.

Key responsibilities:

Maintenance Plumber
  • Respond to work orders via PDA and carry out repairs, PPMs, diagnostics, and corrective actions on plumbing systems.
  • Install new systems and complete repairs following safe systems of work.
  • Undertake fault-finding on plumbing installations and recommend remedial actions.
  • Participate in on-call duties, 15-minute response, and lift release tasks as required.
  • Complete mandatory training and CPD, including specialist tasks or work at height.
Mechanical Plumber (Higher Level)
  • Provide full mechanical and plumbing maintenance across wards and departments.
  • Deliver reactive and planned works on complex systems, including hot/cold water, heating, pumps, compressors, steam, calorifiers, AHUs, and drainage.
  • Diagnose faults, carry out controlled operations, interpret technical drawings, and support HTM compliance.
  • Perform statutory testing, installations, fabrication, and emergency repairs, often independently.
  • Coordinate with other trades, contractors, and clinical teams to ensure safe and efficient service delivery.

  • Maintain clear communication with supervisors, trades, and clinical staff.
Qualifications and Experience
Maintenance Plumber
  • NVQ Level 3 in Plumbing (or equivalent) with solid maintenance experience.
  • Knowledge of ACOP L8 and HSG274, with effective fault-finding skills.
  • Strong communication skills, PDA experience, and familiarity with healthcare systems (HTM04 desirable).
Mechanical Plumber
  • Level 3 qualification in Mechanical Engineering or Plumbing, with additional training in medical gases, pressure systems, legionella, and WRAS.
  • Experience with complex mechanical plant and hospital systems, including steam, pumps, compressors, drainage, and heating.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings, work independently, participate in on-call duties, and operate within HTM compliance frameworks.
