Multi-Skilled Building Services Engineer – Mechanical/Plumbing Bias
Location: North London
Rate: £31.98 per hour umbrella
Contract: 3 months ongoing
Start Date: ASAP
Working Arrangement: Van-mobile

The role will cover planned and reactive maintenance across schools, children's centres, community buildings and corporate properties. The position has a plumbing and mechanical bias, although candidates will need a good awareness of electrical building services and be able to identify basic faults safely.
A key part of the role will be working alongside and mentoring a plumbing apprentice for around three days each week. You will be expected to demonstrate safe working practices, explain tasks clearly, check completed work and support the apprentice's development.

Key Responsibilities
  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance and reactive repairs across mechanical and plumbing systems.
  • Diagnose and repair faults with commercial plumbing, heating and mechanical plant.
  • Maintain pumps, pressurisation units, expansion vessels, calorifiers, booster sets, valves and associated equipment.
  • Repair and maintain domestic hot and cold-water systems.
  • Service TMVs and support water hygiene and Legionella control activities.
  • Complete minor mechanical installation and remedial works.
  • Identify the cause of faults and recommend suitable remedial action.
  • Keep accurate records of work completed using CAFM systems and mobile technology.
  • Manage an allocated workload of PPM and reactive jobs, prioritising urgent issues where required.
  • Complete dynamic risk assessments and follow relevant health and safety and permit-to-work procedures.
  • Communicate effectively with school staff, caretakers, contractors and colleagues.
  • Maintain the work vehicle, tools and equipment.
  • Support and mentor the assigned plumbing apprentice.
  • Assist the wider M&E team where required and within your area of competence.
Essential Requirements
  • NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds or equivalent qualification in Plumbing, Mechanical Engineering or Building Services.
  • Strong practical experience in commercial plumbing and mechanical maintenance.
  • Experience maintaining heating systems, pumps, calorifiers, pressurisation units and associated plant.
  • Experience carrying out both planned and reactive maintenance.
  • Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience working independently in occupied buildings.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Ability and willingness to mentor an apprentice.
  • Comfortable using mobile devices and CAFM systems to record completed works.
